Testimony of Rabbi Eric Asherman regarding assault on him by a knife wielding Jewish extremist:
We went to observe the olive harvest [typical time of settlers attacks on Palestinians- jz] near Gideonim (an illegal settlement near Itamar)
We were Palestinian and Isaeli and international Human Rights activists (the support was required since the shortage of time provided for Palestinians to harvest their olives and violence by extremist settlers). Suddenly, IDF ordered the Palestinians to terminate the harvest by 12:30 (as far as we know, contradicting earlier arrangements), and the harvesters went back home. On the way, the Palestinians noticed Israelis stealing olives from a Palestinian grove (photographs will be soon published) and they notified IDF. Israeli security appeared on location and caught the thieves (as far as we know, they were interrogated on location).
On the opposing hill, another Jewish settler was setting fire in a Palestinian olive grove. Rabbi Eric Asherman noticed that firemen were not arriving and he went there himself to try to stop the fire, which has not expanded yet. The Jewish settler, who was still there, ordered Eric to go away and not get closer to the fire. While Eric was going up the hill to stop the fire, the same Jewish settler approached him, threw stones at him, some of them hit Rabbi Asherman, but did not cause substantial harm. At this point, the Jewish settler took out a knife, and Rabbi Asherman tried to retreat, while still facing the settler. At one point, Eric stumbled, and then the extremist assaulted him. Eric grabed him, and the settler threatened him with the knife, in what appeared as an attempt to stab him, but was blocked and ran away.
Rabbi Asherman reports that he and several other activists remained on location on the hill, in order to wait for police and help identify the attacker. However, police arrived only over half an hour later, and the attacker disappeared.

יצאנו למסיק שתואם עם כוחות הביטחון במטעי זיתים פלסטינים ליד גדעונים (מאחז של איתמר). היינו פלסטינים ופעילי זכויות ישראלים ובינלאומיים שבאו לסייע למסיק ביוזמת רבנים למען זכויות האדם (הסיוע נדרש בעיקר בשל הזמן הקצר מדי שמקצים לפלסטינים למסוק את זיתיהם ובשל אלימות מצד קיצוניים מקרב המתנחלים). לפתע הצבא דרש מהמוסקים לסיים את העבודות ב-12:30 (ככל הידוע לנו בניגוד לתיאום המוקדם עמו), והמוסקים התפזרו חזרה לכפר. בדרך הפלסטינים הבחינו בישראלים שגונבים זיתים ממטע פלסטיני (צילומים יפורסמו בהקדם) והודיעו על כך לכוחות הביטחון ולמת"ק. איש מת"ק הגיע למקום במהרה ותפס את הגנבים (ככל הידוע לנו, הם עבר תיחקור בשטח). בגבעה ממול יהודי נוסף הדליק אש במטע זיתים פלסטיני. הרב אריק אשרמן ראה שכוחות הכיבוי לא מגיעים למקום במהירה ועלה בעצמו לנסות כבות את האש שעדיין לא התפשטה בצורה משמעותית. היהודי הקיצוני שעדיין היה שם הורה לאריק לרדת ולא להתקרב לאש. בעוד אריק עולה על הגבעה לכבות את הדליקה התקרב אליו אותו קיצוני, יידה לעברו אבנים שכמה מהן פגעו ברב אשרמן אך לא באופן משמעותי. בשלב הזה פעיל הימין הקיצוני שלף סכין ואריק ניסה לחזור אחורנית כשהוא עם הפנים כלפי הפעיל הקיצוני, באיזשהו שלב אריק מעד ואז אותו קיצוני התנפל עליו. אריק תפס אותו, הפעיל עשה תנועה מאיימת עם הסכין כאילו מבקש לדקור, נחסם וברח.
