Barcelona, September 25 - the local papers headlines quote Artur Mas, the President of Catalonia, on the "Right for Self-Determination".  Accordingly, he called yesterday for a referendum in Catalonia on November 25.  It is going to be history in the writing, whichever way it goes - peaceful referendum, or oppression by the Spanish military, effectively reinstituting fascism in Spain.

The right for referendum on independence has been established in Quebec, Canada, where the People decided to stick with Canada.  It is also a given in the UK, relative to secession of Scotland, although there is still bickering on the manner in which the referendum would be held.  In Spain, the intent to run a referendum may be sufficient to trigger unpredictable events.

I wish I could stay here till November, does not seem likely. There are dramatic developments each and every day.

The front page pics in the local papers, above the fold, are of a meeting, yesterday in Barcelona, between President Artur Mas and King Juan Carlos of Spain. The photos did not present any amicable feelings, and if anything, they portayed the King talking to Mas, while Mas appearing detached. Whether it was the reality, or just the editors' choice, remains unclear. However, in meetings of such level, it is common to stage a friendly handshake photograph. Not in this case.

In the meanwhile in Madrid, the front pages below the fold show, violent demonstrations took place in front of the Spanish Congress, in opposition to the banks' driven "Austerity".

The capitulation of Madrid to the legal/banking fraud pandemic, is a major driving force for Catalan independence.
